A damage survey is normally commissioned by an insurance underwriter while evaluating an insurance claim, but can also be commissioned by the vessel’s owner if an insurance claim is not being made. In cases of significant damage with large claims, the owner may wish to hire their own surveyor, providing an extra level of comfort and expertise in dealings with the insurance company.

The purpose of the damage survey is to determine the extent of the damage, probable cause (if necessary), recommended repairs, and possibly to also acquire repair estimates.

The damage survey exercise can continue until the repair is complete, providing the commissioning party with progress updates, either verbal or written, as required. The goal of our oversight is to ensure that the final repaired product meets or exceeds the original quality and condition.
